Possible First Homicide of the Year for Hidalgo County

Local News

The Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office say a body was found this morning on the side of the road in Donna. Authorities say they are speaking to a possible witness and are treating this as a homicide case. It was just after 8:00 this morning that the sheriff’s office received a call from a concerned citizen about something on the side of the road.

“The deputy arrived about ten minutes after that and discovered what appears to be the body of a male wrapped in bed covering.” says Sheriff Eddie Guerra.

The body appears to be that of a Hispanic male and authorities say it appears that the body was placed gently on the side of the road.

“I have currently my crime scene specialist and my homicide unit arriving on scene to collect some of the evidence.”

Investigators say they searched the area for vehicle impressions or anything that may have fallen out of the vehicle while the body was being placed on the side of the road.

“We’re not ruling anything out. We’re treating the scene as a homicide and if it is a homicide it’s going to be my first for the year.”

Sheriff Guerra says they are looking into a possible connection between the body and a report from a wife that her husband did not come home last night.

The sheriff’s office is asking if anyone has any information about this incident to please contact their crime stoppers division at 956-668-TIPS (8477).
