Police Say Mother Abandons Her Four Children

On September 10 about 4:00 a.m. Primera Police officers were called to a mobile home located at 16678 Wilson road. The call was in reference to four children that were left home alone. According to the witness she was awakened when two small children came knocking at her home. She recognized the children belonging to 28-year-old Cristina Gomez a relative of hers.

The witness asked the children why they were out walking so late. The eldest child, an 11-year-old, said that her mom had left them alone at there home. Upon further investigation it was revealed that Cristina Gomez had left her home at approximately 11:00 p.m. on September 9 and had left her four children ages 11,10,7, and 3 years alone at home.

According to Cristina Gomez she left to go help a friend in Weslaco. Investigators also learned that the children were left without any means of calling 9-1-1 if there was an emergency.

Investigators arrested Cristina Gomez and charged her with four counts of Child Abandonment and Endangerment of a Child With Intent to Return. Justice of the Peace Eloy Cano set bail at $2,500 per each count. Child Protective Services was notified.
