Police ready to enforce school safety rules for the new school year

Local News

You’ll soon see school buses on the streets of the Rio Grande Valley. They will be transporting thousands of students to and from school. Mission CISD and the police department are urging motorists in the valley to drive careful. That means to stop when the red lights on a school bus are flashing. Police officials also urge drivers to not be on their cell phones when driving in school zones and obey the posted speed limit.

Mission Police Chief Robert Dominguez says the main goal is to prevent accidents. Unfortunately within the last couple years, there was a young lady killed in La Joya. The driver disregarded the lights on a school bus. We don’t want the same type of tragedy to occur. Failure to follow the school zone laws can result in a fine between $400 and $1,000.
