Plans for construction of a UTRGV campus in Harlingen moving forward

Local News

HARLINGEN, Texas – Plans are moving forward for the construction of a new UTRGV campus in the city of Harlingen.

A vote to secure the land where the new campus will reside has been finalized. The campus will serve as an early college and general education campus. It will allow high school students to have dual enrollment while UTRGV students take their general education classes.

Harlingen Mayor Chris Boswell hopes the new campus will make it easier for students who commute. “Better access, easier access to higher education. What a great thing that is for the children of our community, the young people in our community to be able to go and get a four year college degree without having to leave home.”

The land was a donation from the city of Harlingen in partnership with UTRGV and Harlingen CISD. The mayor says they anticipate beginning construction in the next couple months with the completion of the campus around March 2021.
