Petition for Fallen Border Patrol Agent Underway

Local News

It’s been more than two years since an off duty border patrol agent was killed in front of his family. Now the National Border Patrol Agency is pushing for his death to be considered an ‘In the line of duty.’

A petition has been filed for the family of Javier Vega Jr. He was shot and killed by two criminal undocumented immigrants. The undocumented immigrants tried robbing his family during a fishing trip in Willacy County.

According to the National Border Patrol Council President of the Rio Grande Valley, his death should qualify as an LODD because Agent Vega died while stopping a criminal act. The family and the council hope the Border Patrol’s top officials “Do what is right for their fallen agent.”

KVEO spoke with the council this week and Vega’s mother before the petition was submitted.

National Border Patrol Council President, Chris Cabrera stated, “He served his country. He served his community and I believe we owe it to him to honor him properly.”

“Support us. Support this cause because we really want this to be a ‘Line of Duty Death’ we saw the way he protected us and that was his duty.” Said Vega’s mother.

The online petition needs a total of 100,000 signatures before August 31st to get a response from the White House. Currently the petition has more than 2,000 signatures.
