Payne Auto City Clash: Vela Sabercats vs. PSJA Bears

Local News

High School Football Season continues and with that means rivaling teams and more scholarship funds.

News Center 23 and Payne Auto Group have teamed up for this week’s City Clash between Edinburg Vela High Sabercats and the PSJA Bears.

On the field, there’s only one winner. This past Thursday the PSJA Bears and the Robert Vela Sabercats went head to head for the Big ‘W’. But before kick-off, Payne Auto Group and News Center 23 made both teams winners.

Sylvia Ledesma, Robert Vela High School Principal said, “This money is going to help students with book money. School, college is very expensive, but for our students to be able to use this money for even books alone, that helps the parents. And that’s what we are here for.”

Both schools received $1,000 each for scholarships. Although the Sabercats walked off the field with a 64 to 40 win, the PSJA bears did not go home empty handed.

Alejandro Elias PSJA Early College Principal said, “It’s a great opportunity for these students. It’s money for books, money for spending. Money for them to be able to use it even towards classes that they’re taking and they need to pay for as far as tuition. This is something great, and we appreciate it here at PSJA.”

The next City Clash will be between Rio Grande City vs. Sharyland.
