The Texas Department of Public Safety seized 348 pounds of marijuana on Monday after a Texas Highway Patrol Trooper pulled over a vehicle in Hidalgo County.
At about 2:00 PM, a DPS trooper conducted a traffic stop on a black Chevrolet Malibu, traveling northbound on Bentsen Road in McAllen, for a traffic violation. The driver attempted to evade law enforcement on foot, but was successfully detained by troopers.
The trooper subsequently searched the vehicle and found 15 bundles of marijuana, worth an estimate over $2 million.
The driver, Gabriel Vazquez, 45, of Rio Grande City, was arrested and charged with felony possession of marijuana. He was transported to Hidalgo County jail.
