When you think of Porter High School, you think soccer. That’s because the school is known for scoring big in the sport. Just last year the Porter High School Boys Soccer team won the state championship.
To add to their success the school now has a new state of the art soccer field. The boys and girls soccer teams were eager to test out their new field.
School leaders from Brownsville ISD joined student athletes at a ribbon cutting ceremony at the new field.
The field has a state of the art artificial turf. It was a bit more expensive because it is elevated to prevent from flooding.
Dr. Esperanza Zendejas – BISD Superintendent says, “We invested a lot of money in building it up to avoid the flooding. So if it were to rain hard here this field would not be flooded. And students can continue to play.”
The upgrade was a result of the 2015 tax ratification election that allowed the funding to be used for one time expenses. The money is used to improve, repair and expand the districts facilities, including a band hall at Pace Early College High School. In 2016 Lopez Early College High School soccer field was updated with artificial turf.
