New Season of Local Theater to Debut

Local News

The school year means a new season and new entertainment at our local theater in Brownsville, Camille Playhouse. The cast of opening season show ‘Wit’ visited with us to share a little of what you can expect in just a few days!

Ana Laura Chavez, “We are here promoting the play Wit. We’re all a part of this amazing cast. And I’m really excited to be a part of this. I play Vivian Bearing, she’s the lead character and it’s been really exciting. And it’s also been very intense. She is suffering through four metastatical ovarian cancer. She goes through kind of all the stages of grief. So we can all kind of can relate to her. Trying to make it fun and trying to laugh about a very dire situation but then really understanding what’s going on and acceptance. And so it’s a beautiful journey that we get to go through with her.”

William Abete, “I play Dr. Jason Posner, clinical fellow in the medical oncology branch working with Dr. Kelekian.”

Ricky Garza, “I play Dr. Harvey Kelekian in the play Wit. Dr. Kelekian is the head of oncology when Vivian Bearing goes initially for diagnosis. There’s I would say, a battle of wits, if you will between two characters.”

Ben Melendez, “My name is Ben Melendez and I’m a part of the ensemble so I play Tech 4 and Student 4, one you have to be scared of her and one you have to be annoyed by her so it’s a constant change of emotions.”

The Camille Playhouse in Brownsville puts on about six theatrical shows every season. ‘Wit’ runs from September 2nd – 11th. Coming up in October, The Addams Family Musical! For more information you can visit their website
