New Immigration Judges And 130 Undocumented Immigrants Apprehended

Local News

Close to four dozen new immigration judges just added this week.

But despite more judges, illegal entries through the RGV is not slowing anytime soon.

Within the past 24 hours, Weslaco Border Patrol Agents apprehended more than 130 undocumented immigrants in two separate groups.

A total of 45 family units and 22 unaccompanied children.

Just yesterday, Attorney General Jeff Sessions swore in 44 new immigration judges. He instructed them to clear the dockets and enforce the law as quickly as possible.

“We reject unjustified and sometimes fake claims.” says Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

According to Tom Jawetz, Vice President of Immigration Policy, “Immigration judges who handle asylum cases say they’re the equivalent of death penalty cases, because they really are making life and death decisions.”

Sessions also defended the administration’s Zero Tolerance Policy, that led to the separation of thousands of immigrant children from their parents.

The attorney general’s goal is a 50% increase in immigration judges.
