New Commissioner’s Court Holds First Meeting of 2019

New members of the Hidalgo County Commissioner’s Court holding their first meeting of the year. Addressing issues like the Texas Hunger Initiative Project which aims to eliminate hunger and poverty in the Rio Grande Valley.

Jaime Longoria, Community Service Agency Director says, “We go through Hidalgo County and try to pin point the areas where low income families are really expressing difficulties with. One of the five priorities we encountered during this last period is access to nutritious food.”

The project director says Hidalgo County left $150 million on the table last year in unused SNAP benefits and other nutritional assistance, but with the new coalition, Longoria aims to leave no dollar unused.
