National Night Out in the RGV

Local News

Tonight is National Night Out in the state of Texas.

This is an annual event in which local communities and law enforcement host a family friendly event.

Usually these events are prepared with the help of the community and sponsors who donate food and entertainment.

Several valley Cities also celebrate this national holiday in the first week of august.

The city of San Benito will hold their event at Stookey Park this evening.

San Benito Police Chief Michael Galvan says, “when you see a large crowd of citizens from your community come out just to say hi, shake hands, even taking pictures us, it means a lot. That community support is what it’s all about. That shows that we’re doing some things right and we want to build off of that.”

Other cities celebrating tonight include Laguna Vista, Harlingen, Rio Hondo, Hidalgo and many others.

Check your local police department’s website for more details.
