More than 1,000 pounds of marijuana seized by Border Patrol

RIO GRANDE VALLEY, Texas – Over a three-day span, more than 1,000 pounds of marijuana has been seized. Two of those seizures occurred on Friday.

RGV Sector Border Patrol agents say they spotted a red Chevy sports utility vehicle traveling away from the Rio Grande at a high rate of speed. The driver fled from agents, abandoning 59 bundles of marijuana.

Another 181 pounds were abandoned by smugglers near Escobares.

Finally, on Saturday at the Javier Vega Junior Checkpoint a K-9 alerted to a pickup transporting narcotics.

The drugs have an estimated street value worth more than $880,000.
