More Charges, More Teenage Victims Come Forward In Sexual Assault Case

Local News

Friday Cameron County Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy Gus Reyna announced additional charges for Juan Enrique De La Cruz. The 57-year-old Harlingen native is accused of sexually assaulting two teenage relatives.

Earlier this week, Cruz was charged with second-degree felony, prohibited sexual conduct. The teenage victim claims she had been abused for more than a decade. Chief Reyna said DNA evidence collected in May confirmed De La Cruz impregnated the alleged teen victim.

As the investigation progressed, a second teenage victim made an outcry to Child Protective Services in June. It wasn’t until September 7th, 2017 Sheriff Investigators obtained a warrant for De La Cruz. According to Chief Reyna, De La Cruz turned himself into authorities.

De La Cruz is currently charged with second-degree indecency with a child by sexual contact and second-degree prohibited sexual conduct. He is held on a $250,000 bond.
