Mission Police Officer passes away from gunshot wounds

MISSION, Texas – A Mission Police Officer has passed away in the line of duty.

According to spokesperson Lt. Jody Tittle, the officer involved in the shooting has passed away.

The gunman is believed to be a part of a disturbance call the officer was responding to.

The incident happened near the intersection of Stuart Road and Business 83 earlier this evening.

Police say the suspect waved down the officer and as the officer approached, the suspect allegedly fired several rounds at the officer.

The suspect is in custody.

There is currently a high police presence at the McAllen Medical Center. Both McAllen Police Department and Mission Police Department have shown up to pay their respects to the fallen officer.

According to Texas DPS officials, the Texas Rangers will be investigating the incident.
