Missing Persons Case Now Drowning Investigation

Local News

The Cameron County Sheriff’s Office continues their investigation after a missing person case turns into a drowning investigation in Rural San Benito.

The victim was identified as 30-year-old Cristina Carrizales.

According to Sheriff Lucio, this incident stems from a confrontation between Carrizales and her mother in law on Sunday September the 9th.

“Because of that particular dispute. She got into her car leaving her purse and telephone, her cellphone at home.”

The road that leads to the canal on West Hudson Road is not paved, has many turns, and has no barricade. We’re told the vehicle was completely submerged in the deep murky waters. That is why the Brownsville Fire Department Dive Squad was called in to search the area.

Authorities found the vehicle and identified the missing person on September 10, 2018 at around 1:30 PM.

“The case remains open and active,” says Lucio. “…foul play has not been ruled out. We’re pending the autopsy report.”

We’ll continue to track this case and bring you more information as it becomes available.
