Metro bus and pickup truck collide, two dozen people hurt

Nearly two dozen people were hurt when a Houston Metro Bus crashed with a pickup truck this afternoon.  According to passengers the bus was attempted to enter a highway when the collision occurred.

The Houston fire and police departments were called to the scene.  The extent of injuries is unknown, but several passengers could be seen bandaged, while others were taken away by ambulance.

Officials said at least 20 people were hurt in the wreck which involved the two vehicles and an overhead traffic sign.

Norman Tauatolo, a bus passenger said, “We was getting ready to enter the lane here on 59, I-10. This black truck right there — he made a turn without actually — I guess he didn’t see the bus coming… his turn was too far wide. The bus just careened into him and ran into that pole. We all just started going everywhere.”

Another bus passenger said, “Before we got right here the lady had screamed and when I turned my head that’s when we hit that truck. That truck wasn’t paying attention to get on the freeway.. he ain’t paying attention so when he that cone the bus hit it. Once the truck hit the.. once the bus hit the truck it hit that pole right there we went out into that pole and everybody was out. Everybody was messed up.”
