Mercedes Livestock Show and the Suicide Taco

Local News

The valley livestock show is almost over.

Some are excited for the animals on display, others for those on the grill.

We met with various food vendors at the showground and ran into what some may call a local legend.
There is a location to which visitors make the journey all the way from Canada only to have a taste.

They call it the Suicide Taco.

A 6, 11, or 17 inch tortilla filled with different types of meat. “The suicide taco comes with fajita, tripas, sausage, dressed up with beans, avocado, lettuce and tomato. If you care for cheese we add cheese.” Says Maribel Martinez – Suicide Taco Seller.

Are people brave enough to eat the suicide taco?

Martinez says, “We’ve had a few of them that have finished them by themselves.”

The tacos you see on your screen are the smallest size available. This year only 4 men have finished the Jumbo size. Each year the livestock show raises money for local students. The event continues until March 19.
