McAllen ISD Students Experiencing ‘Outer Space’

Local News

More than 14,000 students at McAllen Independent School District are getting a taste of outer space right here at home.

This past weekend the district launched its ‘Mission to Mars’ Project. Where high school students are building rocket launchers and planetary rovers. But it’s not just high school students getting in on the action. Elementary and middle school students are also getting hands on experience in modern technology.

Anjanette Garza – Director for State and Federal Programs said, “They were learning everything from soldering, to how to how to connect the A and B wire, to just different concepts. You can say it was a very hands-on learning experience on Saturday. And they were so engaged, they were so into what they were participating in.”

Officials say this project is a unique experience because it has students of all ages come together and learn as a team.
