Man steals from Harlingen Church, assaults officer

The Harlingen Police Department arrested a man who stole items from a church and assaulted a police officer.

On Saturday, September 26th, at around 10:30 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 1100 block of North 77 Sunshine Strip in reference to a suspicious individual in the alley.

The man began to flee on foot as the responding officer approached him. A struggle ensued as the man kicked and punched the officer.

Further investigation led to the discovery of items that had been stolen from the Church of Christ during a burglary.

The man identified as Albert Jimmy Muniz, 20, was arrested and charged with theft, assault of a public servant, resisting arrest, and evading arrest. Muniz was given a bond totaling $40,000 dollars.
