Local Lawmakers Speak About Proposed Government Shutdown

Local News

Valley lawmakers speak out on President Trump’s proposed government shutdown.

Congressman Filemon Vela and other congressmen from both sides of the political aisle, disagree with the president’s comments. Vela also says a government shutdown will hurt the American people.

“I know that my Democratic colleagues and many of my Republican colleagues are going to do everything we can to avoid a government shutdown in October. The last thing that we need is a government shutdown and nobody in Washington except for the president, thinks that we need a government shutdown.”

The president is asking for $25 billion in border security. Congress has until September 13th to approve the funding and avoid a government shutdown.
