Local City Forms International City Agreement

Today marks the start of a new alliance between the Mexican City of Altamira and The City of Brownsville.

Many gathered as leaders from the Mexican and American cities declared their alliance.

Both The city of Brownsville and Altamira Share some similarities including their ports in the Gulf of Mexico and are hosts to universities.

We spoke to the mayor of Altamira to see what this project means to valley residents.

Altamira‚Äôs Mayor Armando Lopez, “I’ve been talking with the University of Tamaulipas… they say they’re talking with people here and that is why I think it is important to involve our communities. Not just as a government, because sometimes a government can get stuck on an idea. But here we have businessmen, industrial folk and the education department ready to carry on this project.”

Brownsville Mayor Tony Martinez says the goal of this partnership will benefit economic, cultural, and educational sectors of both cites.
