A dog at the center of an animal cruelty investigation is in recovering from a slew of neglect related injuries. Justice formerly known by his owners as Razor is under the care of animal rescue organization Dallas Dog Rescue Rehab Reform. According to a live update from DDRRR, Justice is suffering from an infection in his jaw. “He’s super sick,” said a caretaker with DDRRR. Justice has developed an agonizing cough “He can barely breath. His heartworms are extremely strong.” said the caretaker while driving to a specialist for treatment.
Local 23 News first reported on the animal’s living conditions after Weslaco police confirmed the owners, Rosita Cantu, and Elias Castro gave the dog to an Animal Control Officer. The police response stems from a Facebook post showing Justice chained to a makeshift dog house with what appeared to be a broken jaw and malnourished.
Four days into an investigation, Weslaco Police amid pressure from social media and evidence from a veterinarian arrested Castro and Cantu and charged the two with Class A misdemeanor cruelty to animal non-livestock.
