Some members of the KVEO team spent the day volunteering in the kitchen as part of our annual Founder’s Day.
It’s a day of service to the community where 100 plus Nexstar Television stations participated. This year KVEO visited the Ronald McDonald House Charities in Harlingen. It is where families with children in the hospital, can find comfort in their time of need.
Vanessa Arellano – Ronald McDonald House said, “Here at the Ronald McDonald House, we never turn anyone away. We are going into our 20th anniversary, so a thank you to the community. Since we are non-profit we work off the kindness of others. When we receive donations, we’re so thankful for all the blessings that we get. All of our volunteers are such a precious part of our program. The volunteers help us sort through donations and help us have the upkeep of the house that is needed on a daily basis. And, we also have something called cooking brigade and make-a-meal. So we have groups that come in and they’ll make a meal and package it up and leave it for the families. And they’ll also take it to Valley Baptist or to Edinburg, so that the families that can’t make it to the house can eat it there for free in the hospital. We have a lot of families in and out, especially counting the family rooms. So, easily over a thousand individuals can come to any of our facilities. You know, with health issues, all you need is to know that someone is there to support you and to be with you when you’re going through it. And we can provide that for the families so that they don’t have to worry about where they’re going to stay. They don’t have to worry about what food they’re going to eat. We are always looking for volunteers. People who are helping us and blessing us with their time. And if somebody would like to volunteer we have on our website, our volunteer application or if they’d like to come here to our house, they can pick up an application in person.”
The Ronald McDonald House welcomes all families with child patients ages 0 – 21 who need a place to stay.
