Juvenile diabetes association looking to “Stomp Out Diabetes” with 5k run

WESLACO, Texas – Registration is underway for the South Texas Juvenile Diabetes Association 5k “Sweet Run”. The run will take place at 8:00 a.m. on March 7th at Mayor Pablo Peña Park in Weslaco. Proceeds from the run will benefit “Stop Out Diabetes”, a one-week series educational outreach program. It will teach healthy eating, exercise and the difference between Type 1 & 2 Diabetes.

This past fall the program reached more than 22,000 children in the Rio Grande Valley.

Felipe Salinas, Board president – South Texas Juvenile Diabetes Association, “We invite families to come out and individual runners. Come out spend the morning just with one another to call more awareness to the importance of what Type 1 Diabetes is and Type 2 and how it can be prevented in those cases when it can be to show our families and our children the support.”

Registration starts at $25 for the 5k run with a discount for teams. Children under 10 or with diabetes can walk for free.
