MCALLEN, Texas – Area leaders from Cameron, Hidalgo, Starr, and Willacy Counties coming together this afternoon to discuss the state of education in the Rio Grande Valley.

The celebration hosted by the RGV Focus Initiative aims to make sure all children in the Valley are getting the education they deserve. Organizers say the Rio Grande Valley has lagged behind in educational indicators. Over the last 10 years innovative educational techniques are paying off.

Chris Coxon, Managing Director of Educate Texas, “In 9 out of 12 common indicators the state tracks, the RGV is meeting or exceeding the state of Texas. We are thrilled at the innovation and we are thrilled to present this as a community wide event.”

Coxon adding that education is a community investment. He hopes by bringing community leaders together they will be able to craft better solutions and bring more resources to the region to help move it forward.
