Law enforcement officers in the state of Texas are on the lookout for drivers or passengers without a seatbelt.

Due to the click it or ticket campaign more authorities are on the streets this upcoming holiday season.

The Texas Department of Transportation reported that this campaign has taken seat belt use from about 70 to 90 percent usage.

We asked Tex-Dot why they emphasize patrol during this time of the year.

Spokesperson for the Texas Department of Transportation Octavio Saenz says, “… we also started during this time because Memorial Day starts the beginning of the summer. That is when we start seeing summer traveling, and that’s when more people hit the road. So it’s a perfect time for highlighting that rule, highlighting the law and making sure that everyone is driving on Texas highways buckled up.”

This seatbelt law requires that all passengers in a vehicle are properly buckled up regardless of age.

Increased patrol will continue until June 3rd.
