Increase in Hard Drug Seizures at Ports and Checkpoints

Local News

Border Patrol agents and Customs Inspectors in the Rio Grande Valley are seeing a significant increase in hard drugs.

Cocaine and heroin seizures are up throughout the region. From Zapata to Brownsville federal officers are intercepting more hard drugs at the ports and checkpoints.

The south Texas corridor has seen a 170% increase in heroin and close to a 130% increase in cocaine. The feds say drug traffickers are losing money on drugs like marijuana and are trying to make up the loss with hard drugs.
