Local News

The City of South Padre Island is increasing it’s brush and bulky item collection just in time for Valentine’s Day.

This week the city announces the return of the ‘I Love SPI’ campaign. From now until February 13 there will be an increase in collection frequency of brush and debris along residential areas.
Among the recyclable items, residents can also dispose tires and large tree limbs as part of the program.

Victor Baldovinos, SPI Environmental Director, “Busy season is coming up. We ask our residents to help us clean the island and get it ready for our busy season. The ‘I Love SPI’ campaign is super important because people come to this island from all over the world and we want the island to look the best it can possibly look.”

The health director also plans to give out t-shirts to those spotted participating in the program. Residents can also take their recyclable items to the city’s community center every saturday from 8:00 to 11:00.
