Hidalgo County offering free Preparedness training

EDINBURG, Texas – After the region has been hit by several weather events and fire fatalities, Hidalgo County is offering free preparedness training to community residents.

The training is called Prepared Not Scared. It is a collaboration between the Hidalgo County Emergency Management Office and the Sheriff’s Office. Classes begin tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the Precinct 2 Community Resource Center located in the 500 block of east Earling Street in San Juan.

Both agencies say they are working with community partners hoping to reach out to residents in rural communities and colonias.

Sgt. Frank Medrano, Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office PIO, “To bring more information regarding the importance of 911. The upcoming census which is something the sheriff’s office is taking a big role in, of course fire safety and of course being prepared when it comes to hurricanes.”
