Harlingen robbery suspect arrested

HARLINGEN, Texas – According to Harlingen police officials, at approximately 10:30 A.M. on April 19, 2019, a Harlingen Police Officer responded to Walmart at 1801 W. Lincoln St. in response to an assault.

The officer made contact with the victim, a 53-year-old female Harlingen resident. The victim told the officer that a male subject, whom was driving a gray SUV, struck her vehicle and then proceeded to flee the scene.

The victim stated she had attempted to follow the suspect in order to take a picture of the suspect’s license plate. According to the victim, the male subject then pulled over at the intersection of Haverford and Dixieland and proceeded to assault the victim in an attempt to take her phone. The suspect then got back into his vehicle and fled the scene.

David Cortez Jr. was later identified as the suspect and an arrest warrant was obtained. He was located and arrested on June 15, 2019. He is charged with Robbery, a 2nd Degree Felony, and Evading Arrest.
