HARLINGEN, Texas – The Harlingen Police Department is investigating an officer involved shooting that happened early Thursday morning, leaving one person injured.

Police are giving limited details but what is known is that they have two key pieces of evidence from two surveillance cameras that captured the suspect breaking into a family doctors office.

It began when Harlingen Police officers responded to an alarm activation at a medical center on the 2100 block of Hale Avenue. Authorities say the suspect had a metal rod in his hand and was not cooperating with the initial officer on scene.

Chief Michael Kester, Harlingen Police Department, “The subject did not comply with the officers orders, and he went toward the officer in an aggressive manner. The officer fearing for his safety fired multiple times and the male was struck once in the chest.”

Police say the suspect did enter the medical center and took items, but it is not clear what was taken. The suspect is facing burglary charges and aggravated assault to an officer.

Authorities say the suspect was transported to the hospital and is in stable condition. The officer involved was not injured. Neither of the names have been released.
