Hanna Drumline Heads to Nationals for the Second Time

Local News

For the second time in 2 years, Hanna Early College High School Drumline won first place at a state competition.

The competition took place on March 11, 2017 in Houston. In 2015 the drumline won 7th place at the national level.

This time, they aim for a higher place.

“My hope is top five.”

“It’s a really good feeling I’ve done it before but never as a marimba, which is a really important spot. I’m really happy to be on such a really intricate instrument such as that.”

“My brother went to state years ago with the Hanna drum line and so I’m really excited to be able to experience that with him and with my friends.”

“I try to treat every performance just as that it’s just a performance. So nationals, to not make myself too nervous, I try to look at it as it’s just another thing just another day.”

“It was very difficult. Some of the best drumlines in the state have to attend that competition and it was very humbling for us to come out first place in that division.”

The drumline practices Monday through Saturday. They come in everyday after school. Every member attends.

They are confident in their abilities and believe they will do well in nationals. Which will take place April 20, 2017 in Ohio.

On behalf of News Center 23, I wish Hanna Drumline the best of luck!
