Half Million Dollar Federal Grant Awarded to Brownsville for Neighborhood Planning

Local News

The city of Brownsville along with local and federal housing authorities are getting together to announce a half million dollar neighborhoods planning grant. This grant is said to be used for the improvement of the Buena Vista Neighborhood and the surrounding community. We had a chance to speak with a member from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to see what this program was all about.

Lourdes Castro-Ramirez, HUD Deputy Assistant, “Essentially what they will be able to do is to transform a public housing community that has really served his purpose and is ready for a new improved quality of life for the residents.”

Mayor Tony Martinez of Brownsville, “We need to make sure everybody understands that everybody matters. It’s not just one section of the town or another, but we have to be totally inclusive.”

The announcement will be held at the Buena Vista Neighborhood starting at 6:00 pm. Members from the public are invited to attend this celebration.
