Group of Valley Veterans go to Washington, D.C.

Local News

A wish is coming true for a group of valley veterans.  They’ll have a chance to see first-hand the memorials in Washington, D.C. dedicated to their service and sacrifice for our country.

Honor flight is the organization working to make it happen.  The veterans were sent off with a special farewell at the Harlingen International Airport this morning.  Amongst the group was Angelica Garcia.

Garcia was a Rosie the Riveter during World War II.

She worked in Marfa, Texas as a machinist who would handle bolts and screws.

“We did the man’s jobs since all the boys were either in the Army or the Air Force and there weren’t enough to do the man’s job. We were glad to do something for our country ourselves, you know?”

The group of veterans will return Saturday between 8:30 PM and 10:30 PM.
