Groundbreaking Ceremony for New ER in Harlingen

Local News

Great news for the City of Harlingen this morning from the Harlingen Medical Center as they broke ground for their new emergency room. After 14 years of planning, the hospital is ready for the renovation and expansion project. They will receive 20 new emergency beds, new cardiac catheterization laboratories for heart patients, new endoscopy laboratories to treat gastro-intestinal problems and a new operating room. The project also includes renovation of nearly 12,000 square feet.

Dr. Hugo Blake, Medical Director for Harlingen Medical Center “And this just comes to be one more thing we add to what we already had. As we expand this and we notice that we had such a demand in the ER, we had to do something about this. We were really short in our ER and now we’re going to have twenty beds and at the same time we’ll expand other services. It was just time over do.”

The City of Harlingen mayor, the city commission, as well as State Representative Eddie Lucio III were at the special ground breaking ceremony in support of the multimillion dollar project. Its completion date is set for some time in 2017.
