Grammy Winning Tejano Star Laid To Rest In Hometown

Brownsville, TX - "I am thinking to myself we are going to wake up." said Tejano singer Jimmy Gonzalez's nephew James Arizmendi. On Tuesday, nearly a week since Gonzalez passed, family, friends and fans are gathered to say goodbye. " he started playing music in my grandfather's dirt garage." Arizmendi was in diapers when Gonzalez formed Tejano group Grupo Mazz in 1978. From their humble beginnings, Gonzalez's career skyrocketed winning Grammy Awards and nominations. His diabetes escalated, Arizmendi said before his uncle's death, mobility was difficult and his vision was nearly gone, but he could still sing and play guitar, "
There is only one thing that is going to stop me from playing music [and that] is God. I am not going to quit playing my music because of my fans."

Gonzalez was buried Tuesday at Buena Vista Burial Park.
