After a homicide that left a McAllen High School student and her mother dead, students are coming together to pay tribute to a dear friend, sister and daughter.
Kassidy Neumann said of her friend, “I want her to know how much I love her, and thank her for being there for me, through everything.”
Whether they’ve known her for several years or even as little as a few months, the loss of 16-year-old Ashley Garcia has touched thousands.
Ruth Garcia – McAllen High School Head Softball Coach said, “The community in itself, our softball community has extended their love. You know, alumni, parents, bringing food for the kids. It’s just overwhelming, but at the same time it’s allowed the girls and the students and her friends to say wow. She was loved and they cared about her and she mattered. And that’s the most important thing, is to let the kids know that they matter.”
Ashley’s friends remember her by saying she was outgoing, she was outstanding, hilarious. She made everybody laugh, and made everybody happy.
There may be one less student walking the halls of McAllen High School, but her peers are making sure Ashley’s memory lives on forever.
Esdras Acuna – McHi Student said, “I was heart-broken. It was devastating because no one deserves that, you know?”
And although no one got the chance to say one last goodbye, her friends want everyone to know just how special Ashley was.
