Free smoke alarms for residents

Local News

MCALLEN, Texas – Mcallen Red Cross volunteers will be installing 600 free smoke alarms across the city beginning April 27. Local fire departments and volunteers will also replace batteries in existing alarms.

It’s all in an effort to save more lives, as they provide families with home fire safety tips while helping residents create escape plans.

Danella Hughes, Executive Director – American Red Cross, “We see a lot of fires here in this county and around these local communities. I want to make sure that not only is this awareness but to recruit volunteers.”

A family event will take place April 27 at Brown Middle School. Families will be given fire escape plan tips.
