Former Sheriff Being Released from Federal Custody

Former Hidalgo County Sheriff Lupe Treviño is released from federal custody after serving a five-year prison sentence. The former sheriff pleaded guilty to a money laundering conspiracy charge in 2014 and has been living in a halfway house for the past six months.

A representative with the Residential Reentry Management Field Office in San Antonio says Treviño is being released sometime today. The time and location of his release could not be shared. The representative says after his release Treviño will be under federal supervision for two years.
