BROWNSVILLE, Texas – Flu season is underway in the Rio Grande Valley. As the new year approaches, health officials are stating how the flu shot can save lives. The peak time for the flu season runs from October through May.
Health experts advising the public about ways to prevent getting the Influenza virus. They say the more people that get the vaccine, the less likely the flu will spread. They recommend getting the flu shot at the beginning of the season, but say it’s never too late to get vaccinated.
Dr. Arturo Rodriguez, Brownsville Public Health Director, “It’s never too late to get it. Also, keep in mind the flu vaccines are manufactured and there’s only availability of so many. If you can get the vaccine early enough it puts you in a position of protection sooner.”
If you are experiencing flu-like symptoms such as a cough, runny nose, fever, or sore throat. You are advised to see a doctor to make sure you don’t have the virus.
