Feral Hogs Hunted

Local News

Feral hogs are considered an invasive species to local wildlife.

Wild hogs are known to cause severe damage to roads and facilities statewide as well.

This week Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Refuge and Trinity Oaks conducted a feral hog hunt.

Over 40 hogs were hunted.

The meat was processed and donated to local organizations in Texas and northern Mexico.

Assistant Refuge Manager at Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Refuge Leo Gustafson says, “They donated 2,000 pounds of ground meat to Loaves and fish a couple of weeks ago. And it was very interesting because the man in charge at loaves and fish said they were about to take meat off their menu because they could no longer afford it.”

These hunts are done to reduce feral hog numbers in the wild.

Experts ask that you take precaution if you encounter massive hog sightings.
