Beginning May 22 to June 4th law enforcement agents across the state are stepping up their efforts to fine anyone not wearing a seat belt.
‘if you’re driving without a seatbelt, expect to get a ticket,’
That is one of the messages law enforcement issues during the 15th year anniversary of the Click it or ticket campaign.
The Texas Department of Transportation estimates 5,068 lives have been saved by the iconic phrase.
According to the department, each year hundreds die in car accidents, some of those deaths could have been prevented if vehicle occupants had seat belts.
“I had a really bad car crash. If it weren’t for the seatbelt I probably wouldn’t be here right now…” says Accident Survivor Eleden Salinas.
Texas law requires drivers and all passengers in vehicle to be secured by a seat belt.
In the Rio Grande Valley 135 motor vehicle accidents resulted in fatal or serious injuries because occupants were not wearing a seat belt.
