Emilio Navaira’s Family Speaks

The Family of the late Tejano Music Icon Emilio Navaira addressed the media at a press conference yesterday.  The Grammy-winning musician known to his fans simply as Emilio died at the age of 53.
Preliminary results indicate he died of natural causes Monday night in a New Braunfels hospital.

Navaira released nearly a dozen albums in Spanish and English, mostly a mix of traditional Mexican music and Accordion-based Polka known as Tejano but also some country.  He won the Best Tejano Album Grammy in 2002 for “Acuerdate.”

“We want to thank everybody for all their prayers…and the support…and the well wishes that y’all have sent us. Because the pain we’re going through is really, really hard…and that helps us…knowing that my brother was loved by so many…all over the world.” said his brother Raulito Navaira.

Navaira’s last performance in the U.S. was at Billy Bob’s in Fort Worth.
The funeral is set for Monday, May 30th at 1:00pm at San Fernando Cathedral in San Antonio.
