Emergency supplies tax holiday

Local News

RIO GRANDE VALLEY, Texas – Texans can save some money this weekend on emergency supplies for their homes.

The state’s emergency supplies sales tax holiday runs from Saturday through Monday. Items you can buy tax free include batteries, ice coolers, lamps, flashlights, and tarps.

The Texas Comptroller’s Office encourages people to take advantage of this time of year so they’re prepared.

“Weather like this, people get complacent, they think oh my goodness it’s a nice day to sit out on the patio, but it’s never too late to be thinking about emergency supplies that you need.” Says Kevin Lyons a spokesperson for the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts.

Since 2016, the state estimates Texans have saved around $5 million.
