New details in the murder that happened in the early morning hours in Edinburg. It was a dispute that left one man dead and a woman injured. Police confirm the suspect is in custody.
Oscar Treviño – Assistant Police Chief: “What we’re learning is that there was a dispute between a couple, male and female, in which the female was attempting to end her relationship with this individual.”
Investigators say it was a break up turned deadly for a family on the 3100 block of Celeste Drive in Edinburg. A 24-year old man suffered multiple stab wounds to his upper torso during an attempt to protect a 44-year old woman who is presumed to be his mother.
Oscar Treviño: “The female fell victim to an assault, to torture, to sexual assault, and also to a stabbing.”
Police say 55-year old Sigfredo Ramos made a comment during the dispute. He said that if he couldn’t have her, no one else would. Residents say they’re still shocked by what happened to their neighbor.
Ruben Ramirez – Victim’s neighbor: “They look like a nice family. They’re always out there cutting grass and fixing their house and all that.”
Edinburg Police located Ramos at around 8:30 this morning with help from the FBI and DPS Tag Unit.
The suspect is now facing Capital Murder and Attempted Capital Murder charges. He’s expected to be arraigned sometime tomorrow.
As for the 44-year old victim, she is now in stable condition at a local hospital, where she’s recovering from her injuries.
