District Judge Faces Bribery Charge

Local News

A Hidalgo County District judge is facing a bribery charge. It follows an FBI investigation that began in 2016.

Hidalgo County 93rd District Judge Rodolfo “Rudy” Delgado was charged with Bribery concerning programs receiving federal funds. The charged derived from an FBI investigation that began in November 2016. The investigation showed that Delgado was accepting money for future judicial decisions on cases he would oversee in his court.

An FBI affidavit indicates a confidential source, who is a licensed attorney, confessed to investigators that Delgado accepted bribes in exchange for favorable consideration on several cases he would oversee. During his initial appearance in court Delgado was given a $100,000 bond.

Hidalgo County Judge Ramon Garcia and some of Delgado’s relatives and friends were also present at the hearing. He’s been under federal custody since Friday, February 2. FBI agents raided the Hidalgo County 93rd District Court office, and a home in Edinburg that was registered under Delgado.

Currently, Delgado is not allowed to travel to Mexico or outside of the southern District of Texas.
