Defense Secretary Signs Deployment Order for Troops to U.S.-Mexico Border

Local News

U.S. Defense Secretary James Mattis has signed deployment orders for 800 plus troops to come to Texas. The plan is for Border Patrol agents to help stop the caravan. There seems to be uncertainty about exactly where that migrant caravan is expected to cross the border. What is certain is that troops will be headed to the border.

It is reported the largest group will be headed to the Rio Grande Valley.

At this point it is unclear if the troops will be National Guard or active duty troops from the area. The troops will not engage in lethal operations to stop the migrants. They will provide fencing which includes wall materials and other technical support at several key points along the border. They are expected to start arriving next week.

President Trump is calling the caravan a national emergency. Stay with News Center 23 as this story develops.
