The Lower Rio Grande Valley Development Council is kicking of their ‘Cool Community’ drive today.
The L-R-G-V-D-C and various organizations across the valley will be giving away box fans to those in need.
They will set up in Alamo, Weslaco, Harlingen And Brownsville to distribute fans for people over 60.
The organization says “it is a much needed program for our most vulnerable elderly Rio Grande Valley citizens.”
Jose Gonzales from the LRGVDC says, “We’re also accepting contributions from individuals, businesses, you know, fans for this endeavor. We have a lot of seniors out there in the community that don’t have a means to keep cool…”
This is the first community fan drive and they are not stopping until every last fan has been donated.
They provided the first 250 fans and they are asking local business, organizations, and individuals to donate 20” fans or monetary contributions.
If you are in need of a fan or would like to donate for this cause call or visit one of these locations.
