Law enforcement agencies throughout Texas have been stepping up their patrol efforts during TxDOT’s click it or ticket campaign. Though the campaign is coming to a close this Sunday, TxDOT wants to remind you about the importance of making sure everyone in your vehicle is using a seat belt this summer. Or you can face fines and court costs of up to $200. Last year, Texas saw more than 2,300 crashes involving unrestrained passengers resulting in 889 fatalities.
“While 9 out of 10 Texans buckle up some of them still are not getting the message. Passengers are less likely than drivers to wear seat belts and we also know that people are less likely to wear seatbelts at night. Passengers in pick-up trucks still continue to use seat belts less often than passengers in cars.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates that since its inception, the Click It or Ticket Campaign in Texas has resulted in more than 4,500 fewer traffic fatalities.
